Kolkata, 2 August (H.S.) — A BJP worker was allegedly attacked with deadly weapons by a Rohingya infiltrator in the Behala area of Kolkata, sparking political outrage and fresh accusations against the West Bengal government. The incident was highlighted by Leader of Opposition and senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, who took to social media on Saturday to share a video of the injured party worker and launched a scathing attack on the Mamata Banerjee-led administration.
Adhikari alleged that illegal infiltrators, particularly from the Rohingya community, were being shielded by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government for political gains, and that their lawless behaviour is going unchecked.
The BJP leader identified the victim as Debashish Biswas, a resident of the Behala East Assembly constituency and an active BJP worker. According to Adhikari, Biswas was brutally attacked on Friday after he objected to a group of Rohingya men openly consuming ganja outside his home. The confrontation quickly escalated, and one of the individuals allegedly stabbed Biswas with a knife and a pair of scissors, leaving him severely injured.
The video shared by Adhikari showed Biswas with deep wounds on his face and body. Adhikari claimed that such criminal activities are becoming commonplace in Kolkata, and blamed the deteriorating law and order situation on what he called a compromised police force that he alleged is more concerned with serving TMC leaders than enforcing the law.
“The police removed the main accused from the scene citing ‘security concerns’,” Adhikari alleged in his post, adding that the state government was nurturing such elements for vote-bank politics. “These people have lost the fear of law because they enjoy political protection,” he said.
Adhikari further claimed that the administration deliberately avoids taking action against a particular community that forms Mamata Banerjee’s core support base.
As of the time of reporting, there has been no official statement from either the West Bengal government or the police regarding the incident.
