Kolkata, 2 August (H.S.) — In a major development aimed at improving passenger convenience, Eastern Railway’s Sealdah Division has introduced a permanent platform allocation system for suburban trains. The move is expected to minimize confusion among commuters about train departures and ensure smoother crowd management at the station.
The new system ensures that each route’s suburban trains will now consistently depart from designated platforms. This initiative was finalized during a recent meeting chaired by the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Sealdah.
According to officials, the revised platform allocations are as follows:
1. Platforms 1 to 5 will now serve local trains running towards Gede, Shantipur, Krishnanagar, Ranaghat, Naihati, Kalyani Simanta, and Barrackpore.
2. Platforms 5 to 8 will cater to local trains bound for Dankuni and Baruipur. Additionally, local services on the Bangaon, Barasat, Habra, Thakurnagar, Hasnabad, Dum Dum Cantonment, and Madhyamgram routes will depart from Platforms 6 to 10. Long-distance trains have been assigned to Platforms 9, 11, and 14.
3. Platforms 15 to 21 will now serve all local trains heading towards Diamond Harbour, Lakshmikantapur, Sonarpur, Namkhana, Baruipur, and Canning.
Railway officials have stated that this permanent platform allocation will significantly improve passenger experience by reducing last-minute rush and enhancing the station’s overall operational efficiency. It is also expected to contribute to better train punctuality and systematic crowd flow.
