Kolkata, 2 August (H.S.) -

In yet another incident highlighting the city’s crumbling infrastructure, a portion of a dilapidated building collapsed in Kolkata’s Maniktala area early Saturday morning, leaving six people injured, including two children and their mother.

The incident occurred in the Kankurgachi locality of North Kolkata, triggering panic among local residents. Eyewitnesses reported that a section of the building gave way suddenly around dawn, trapping residents from an adjacent structure under the debris.

Local residents immediately rushed to help and alerted the police and disaster management authorities. The injured were quickly rescued and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Among the injured is a woman believed to be the mother of the two children.

Residents claim that the building was in a highly deteriorated condition and that repeated complaints had been made to the Kolkata Municipal Corporation. However, no effective action was reportedly taken to address the issue.

Following the collapse, civic officials and police personnel reached the site and are currently overseeing rescue and relief operations. The area around the damaged structure has been cordoned off as a precautionary measure to ensure public safety.
