Lucknow, 02 Aug

(HS): A 70-year-old

man died while waiting for treatment for hours, and his family is claiming

medical negligence. Kashi Prasad

Goswami, a Sarojini Nagar resident in Lucknow, was initially transported to a

private hospital on Thursday night after experiencing significant difficulties

breathing. A 70-year-old man died in

Lucknow after reportedly being refused prompt care while his family searched

all night for an oxygen cylinder-equipped bed.

The tragedy has prompted major issues about hospital readiness and

reaction. Kashi Prasad Goswami, a

Sarojini Nagar resident in Lucknow, was rushed to a private hospital on Thursday

night after having trouble breathing.

Doctors there temporarily stabilized him with oxygen before referring

him to King George's Medical University (KGMU) when his health deteriorated.

According to the

patient's son-in-law, Ashutosh Giri, the family raced to KGMU's trauma unit in

hopes of receiving quick attention.

Despite several requests, they were not given a bed or oxygen support. Giri

reported that the family waited for about four hours with Goswami lying on a

stretcher, but no doctor attended to him.

The staff kept informing us there were no beds available. No one ever came to check on him, Giri said. When it became clear that no aid would be

forthcoming, his family returned to the same private hospital where he had been

hospitalized. Unfortunately, Goswami

died while receiving treatment there.

Giri claimed utter neglect from both the

private hospital and the KGMU. We

continued pleading for assistance, but all we received was silence. His oxygen level was continually decreasing,

and no one intervened, he claimed.

However, the KGMU

administration rejected charges of indifference and unresponsiveness, citing a

lack of beds as the reason for Goswami's denial of admission. Dr Sudhir Singh, KGMU's spokesman, stated that

the patient was referred owing to a paucity of ventilator beds. Dr Singh

explained that he was urged to wait since there were no beds available at the

moment. The patient and his family fled before any more preparations could be

made, he explained. The tragedy has

aroused widespread indignation about the ongoing absence of emergency

facilities in big government hospitals, particularly in life-threatening

situations. The family has demanded responsibility from

the hospital management, alleging unnecessary carelessness.
