Farmer Killed in  Elephant Attack in Dhenkanal District

Bhubaneswar, 2 August (H.S.): A 56-year-old farmer lost his life in elephant attack in the Hindol forest range of Odisha’s Dhenkanal district. The deceased has been identified as Sudhakar Samal, a resident of Tangisala village under the Hindol block.

According to sources, Sudhakar had gone to his farmland on Friday but failed to return home by evening. Concerned over his absence, family members began searching for him, but refrained from entering the farmland due to reports of elephant movement in the area.

On Saturday morning, villagers discovered Sudhakar's body in his field with grievous injuries, including a severed head. Large elephant footprints were reportedly found near the site, leading locals to believe that a wild elephant was responsible for the fatal attack.

Following the incident, officials from the Karnapur Beat House and local police reached the spot and have initiated an investigation. Forest department personnel are also working to confirm the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The tragic death has raised concerns among locals about increasing human-wildlife conflict in the region, particularly in areas bordering forest ranges.
