Two sex rackets busted in Nagpur under Operation Shakti


Nagpur, 02 Aug (HS):

Acting under the directives of Police Commissioner Dr Ravinder Singal, the

Social Security Branch (SSB) of the Crime Branch, Nagpur, cracked down on a sex

trafficking racket operating from a hotel in the Ganeshpeth area.

The raid was

conducted on August 1, between 5:40 PM and 12:30 AM, near the Swag Stay Rahul Hotel, within the limits of Ganeshpeth Police Station. The accused, Sumit Eshwar Ghate

(resident of Hingna Road), was taken into custody, while his accomplices Rahul

and Sachin, fled the scene and remain at large. Police seized property worth Rs 91,000, including Rs 21,000 in cash and mobile phones valued at Rs 70,000.

Investigation revealed that the accused lured women with promises to make quick money before forcing them into prostitution. Five women from other states were rescued. Following a complaint filed by Police Constable Kunal Masram, a case was registered under sections 143(2)(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and Sections 3, 4, 5, and 7 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956. The seized material and rescued women were handed over to the Ganeshpeth Police for further investigation.

In another Operation

Shakti action on the same day, the Social Security Branch (SSB) of the Crime

Branch, Nagpur City, busted a prostitution racket operating from a farmhouse in

Aajani village, New Kamptee, in Nagpur district..

The raid was

conducted between 3:55 PM and 9:30 PM at Dwell Stays Cocktail Camel Farm House

under the jurisdiction of New Kamptee Police Station. Police arrested Lata

Vijay Belekar (65) and Ishan Prakash Bhoyar (21), both residents of New

Kamptee, while another accused, Amol Vijay Manavatkar, escaped. Two women were rescued, and materials worth Rs 15,433, including Rs 1,500 in cash, three mobile phone sets, were seized by the police. A case has been registered based on a complaint lodged by Police Constable Kishor Thakre from SSB, under sections 143(2)(3) of BNS, and Sections 3, 4, 5, and 7 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.
