Kolkata, 2 August (H.S.) — Panic gripped the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata on Saturday after a Bangladeshi national allegedly attempted to escape by breaking a glass panel at the international lounge.
The individual, identified as Mohammad Ashraful, 25, reportedly arrived in Kolkata from Singapore on an IndiGo flight. He was scheduled to board a connecting flight to Dhaka later that day.
According to eyewitnesses, Ashraful was seated in the international lounge when he suddenly tried to smash through the glass in an attempt to flee. On-duty CISF personnel responded swiftly, apprehended him immediately, and handed him over to airport authorities for preliminary questioning.
Sources involved in the interrogation said the man exhibited erratic behaviour, prompting concerns about his mental condition. Police are also investigating whether he was involved in any form of trafficking or criminal activity.
The Bidhannagar police have taken Ashraful into custody and launched a detailed investigation to ascertain the motive behind his actions.
Authorities are treating the matter seriously and are working to determine whether the incident was an isolated act of mental distress or linked to a larger criminal intention.
