Nagpur, 02 Aug (HS): Grandmaster
Divya Deshmukh, who created history as the first Indian woman to win the 2025
FIDE Women’s World Cup, was accorded a grand public felicitation in Nagpur. The
event was graced by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who personally
felicitated the young chess sensation for her remarkable achievement on the
global stage.
The Maharashtra
government announced a cash prize of Rs 3 crore to honour Divya’s stellar
performance and to encourage her to continue with the performance.
Minister for Youth
Affairs and Sports Manikrao Kokate, Minister of State for Finance and Planning
Ashish Jaiswal, MLA Krishna Khopde, MLC Dr Parinay Fuke and others were
present.
Fadnavis lauded Divya’s
achievement and called it a moment of pride for the entire nation. He assured
the government’s continued support to her in her career as a sports person.
