New Delhi, August 17(HS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will today inaugurate two landmark national highway projects worth nearly ₹11,000 crore in the national capital, marking a major stride in the government’s mission to decongest Delhi and enhance regional connectivity. The ceremony will be held at Rohini around 12:30 PM, where the Prime Minister will also address the gathering.

The two projects — the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) — are being hailed as game-changers for Delhi-NCR’s road infrastructure. Together, they are expected to cut travel time, ease bottlenecks, provide seamless interconnectivity, and strengthen economic links across the region.

Dwarka Expressway (Delhi Section)

The 10.1 km long Delhi stretch of the Dwarka Expressway has been developed at a cost of about ₹5,360 crore. Equipped with world-class engineering and designed for multi-modal integration, this corridor will serve as a critical gateway to western Delhi.

-The first package (5.9 km) runs from Shiv Murti intersection to Dwarka Sector-21.

-The second package (4.2 km) stretches from Sector-21 to the Delhi-Haryana border, where it merges directly with UER-II.

Once operational, it will connect seamlessly to Yashobhoomi Convention Centre, Delhi Metro’s Blue and Orange Lines, the upcoming Bijwasan railway station, and the Dwarka cluster bus depot. The Haryana section of the Expressway, spanning 19 km, had earlier been inaugurated by the Prime Minister in March 2024.

Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II)

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the Alipur to Dichaon Kalan stretch of UER-II, along with its spurs to Bahadurgarh (Haryana) and Sonipat. Built at a cost of around ₹5,580 crore, the project is strategically designed to function as Delhi’s third ring road.

The corridor will act as a pressure-reliever for Delhi’s Inner and Outer Ring Roads, diverting heavy traffic away from choke points like Mukarba Chowk, Dhaula Kuan, and NH-09. By offering a direct high-speed route for freight movement, it will not only cut city traffic but also give a major boost to industrial connectivity and logistics efficiency in the NCR.

Nation-Building through Infrastructure

Both projects embody Prime Minister Modi’s vision of creating next-generation infrastructure that enhances urban mobility, spurs economic growth, and improves ease of living. By integrating metro, road, and rail connectivity, these corridors are set to provide a blueprint for future urban expressways in India.

With today’s inauguration, Delhi is poised to witness a radical transition in its transport map — easing congestion, reducing travel hours, and opening new corridors of growth for the NCR.
