New Delhi, August 16 (HS): In a sharp political move against alleged voter list manipulation and ‘stolen votes,’ the Congress-led INDIA alliance is set to begin the ‘Voter Rights Yatra’ in Bihar from August 17. Announcing the initiative at the Congress headquarters, party spokesperson Pawan Khera described it as a historic campaign to safeguard democracy.

Khera asserted that the march aims to awaken public consciousness at a time when “those conspiring against democracy are still trying to steal votes.” The yatra will kick off in Sasaram on August 17 and culminate in a grand rally at Patna on September 1, covering nearly 1,300 kilometers over 16 days. The concluding rally will also see the participation of top leaders from the INDIA bloc.

Targeting the Election Commission, Khera warned that if the institution is seen as aligning with the ruling dispensation, it would be strongly resisted. “This is not merely a political journey, but a fight for the existence and rights of the people—anchored in the principle of one person, one vote,” he said.

Highlighting Rahul Gandhi’s previous mass outreach programs, Khera added that “whenever Rahul Gandhi has taken to the streets, Indian democracy has witnessed a new turn.”

Congress has hailed the yatra as a milestone in the defense of democracy and the Constitution, positioning it not just as a march, but as a battle for every citizen’s voice and vote.
