New Delhi, August 16 (HS): In a significant diplomatic development, senior Chinese leader and Foreign Minister Wang Yi will arrive in India on August 18 for an official visit, aimed at advancing discussions on the long-standing boundary issue between the two countries.

According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, the visit comes at the invitation of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, who also serves as India’s Special Representative on border matters. During the three-day visit, Wang Yi and Doval will hold the 24th round of Special Representatives’ talks, a crucial mechanism designed to address the complex India-China boundary dispute.

The ministry’s statement noted that these talks form part of “sustained efforts toward achieving a fair and mutually acceptable resolution” of the boundary question.

In addition, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar is scheduled to meet his Chinese counterpart. The bilateral talks between the two foreign ministers will cover a wide spectrum of issues—ranging from mutual interests and regional concerns to key global developments—while looking for ways to restore balance, stability, and constructive momentum to India-China relations.

Beijing has also confirmed the visit, with the Chinese Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson stating, “From August 18 to 20, Foreign Minister Wang Yi will travel to India at the invitation of the Government of India. He will meet Special Representative Ajit Doval for the 24th round of boundary negotiations.”

Experts view this round of dialogue as a critical opportunity to ease existing tensions, rebuild mutual trust, and explore pathways toward a sustainable resolution. The timing of the talks is seen as particularly significant, given the pressing need for regional stability and greater cooperation between the two Asian giants.
