Bihar Voter Roll Revision Sees Over 1.6 Lakh Claims and Objections in Two Weeks

Patna, August 15(HS): The State Intensive Revision (SIR) 2025 process for Bihar has entered a crucial phase, with an extensive number of claims and objections pouring in following the publication of the draft electoral roll on August 1.

According to official data released by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) in its daily bulletin covering the period from August 1 (3:00 PM) to August 15 (9:00 AM), political parties and individual electors have collectively filed a significant volume of representations challenging entries in the list or seeking the inclusion of new eligible voters.

Among national parties, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has lodged the highest number of objections through its Booth Level Agents (BLAs), with 53,338 submissions. The Indian National Congress follows with 17,549, while the Bahujan Samaj Party recorded 74 and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) 899. The Aam Aadmi Party, National People’s Party, and other parties have filed comparatively fewer claims.

State parties were even more active in the process. The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) alone accounted for an extraordinary 47,506 objections, closely followed by the Janata Dal (United) with 36,550 and the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation with 1,496. Other notable contributors include the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) with 1,210, the Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party with 1,913, and the Rashtriya Lok Samta Party with 270.

In total, the claims and objections submitted through political channels stand at 1,60,813 — none of which have yet been resolved, as per the seven-day verification and disposal protocol laid down in electoral regulations.

Separately, individual electors have directly submitted 28,370 requests for inclusion of eligible voters or exclusion of ineligible names. Of these, only 857 cases have been disposed of so far.

Additionally, the period has witnessed a surge in voter registration among first-time electors aged 18 years and above. Electoral authorities received 1,03,703 Form-6 applications — including six routed via BLAs — but none have yet been processed pending mandatory verification.

Officials emphasised that under SIR orders, no deletions from the draft roll may be made without a formal “speaking order” from the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO), following a structured inquiry and ensuring fair opportunity to those concerned.

The revision exercise is seen as pivotal in ensuring a transparent and error-free voters’ list ahead of the upcoming electoral cycle in Bihar.
