New Delhi, August 14(HS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi today heralded a landmark milestone in India’s journey toward universal access to safe drinking water, as the Jal Jeevan Mission completed six years of remarkable progress.

Launched in 2019, this flagship initiative has revolutionized rural water access by ensuring functional household tap connections for more than 15 crore families across the nation. What began as an ambitious vision has emerged as one of the Government’s most impactful social transformations, empowering communities, uplifting health standards, and reshaping rural life.

Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister lauded the mission’s far-reaching outcomes, underlining its undeniable role in improving healthcare and strengthening grassroots resilience. “We mark #6YearsOfJalJeevanMission, a scheme that focuses on dignity and transforming lives. It has ensured better healthcare, especially for our Nari Shakti,” he shared on social media, highlighting the mission’s life-changing impact on women, who traditionally bore the burden of fetching water from distant sources.

From curbing waterborne diseases to sparking economic opportunities in villages, the Jal Jeevan Mission has gone beyond mere infrastructure — it has delivered dignity, security, and a renewed sense of hope. In countless hamlets, the rhythmic flow of clean water from taps now symbolises freedom from generations-old hardships.

Six years on, the initiative’s legacy stands as a testament to the power of focused governance, community participation, and visionary leadership. For India’s rural heartland, the journey from scarcity to sustainability has truly turned the tide.
