New Delhi, August 14(HS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed profound concern over the devastating cloudburst and subsequent flooding in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, assuring that the Union Government is committed to providing every possible form of assistance to those affected.
In a post on social media platform X, the Prime Minister wrote:
“My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by the cloudburst and flooding in Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir. The situation is being monitored closely. Rescue and relief operations are underway. Every possible assistance will be provided to those in need.”
He emphasised that both rescue and relief measures are progressing on a war footing, with constant monitoring from the highest levels of government.
The tragedy struck on Thursday following a sudden cloudburst in the upper reaches of Kishtwar, triggering flash floods that swept through remote villages. According to local sources, there has been significant loss of life and property, with road links disrupted and several people reported missing. Teams from the NDRF, Army, police, and local administration have been deployed, working in challenging conditions to reach affected residents.
While official figures are being compiled, initial reports indicate washed‑away shelters, damaged infrastructure, and urgent needs for food, shelter, and medical aid. The Prime Minister’s assurance signals the Centre’s resolve to swiftly mobilise resources and stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the people of Jammu and Kashmir in this hour of distress.
