New Delhi, August 14(HS): In a sharp push against alleged “vote theft” and to amplify efforts under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, the Congress party is set to embark on a statewide campaign — the ‘Voter Rights Yatra’ — from August 17 to 30.

The journey will kick off from Gaya district, passing through Munger, Bhagalpur, Katihar, Purnea, Madhubani, Darbhanga, and West Champaran, before culminating in Ara on August 30. Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will join the march, alongside Rashtriya Janata Dal’s (RJD) Tejashwi Yadav, signaling a show of strength by the Opposition alliance.

Announcing the campaign on Wednesday on X (formerly Twitter), Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal called it “a decisive step to safeguard democracy, the Constitution, and people’s rights.” He accused “certain forces” of conspiring to undermine India’s democratic framework and steal people’s votes — a move, he asserted, that will be met with a robust public response from the Congress and the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance).

Venugopal revealed that the campaign will be flagged off with a massive rally in Sasaram on August 17, before formally commencing from Gaya. The Ara finale on August 30 will be followed by a mega ‘Voter Rights Rally’ in Patna on September 1, aimed at sending a clear message across Bihar: vote theft will not be tolerated.

“The Congress and its allies will continue to fight to ensure that power remains with the people, not in the hands of divisive forces or their cronies,” Venugopal asserted.
