New Delhi, August 14 (HS): On the eve of India’s 79th Independence Day, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla extended warm greetings to citizens, urging them to honour the legacy of the freedom struggle by dedicating themselves to building a stronger, more prosperous nation.

Birla said August 15 evokes pride and a sense of self-respect in the heart of every Indian, offering an occasion to remember the sacrifices of freedom fighters, revolutionaries, and national leaders whose courage and perseverance secured the country’s independence.

Praising India’s rise on the global stage, he noted that the country now stands as the world’s largest democracy and among its fastest-growing major economies, recognised internationally for achievements in science, medicine, technology, space exploration, and sports. He described today’s India as both self-reliant and self-respecting.

Safeguarding and Honouring Freedom

The Speaker emphasised that preserving the dignity of freedom is the duty of every citizen, and that the goal must be to hand over to the coming generations an India that is even more prosperous and resilient.

“Just as 40 crore Indians realised the dream of an independent India in 1947 through their determination, today 140 crore Indians can together fulfil the vision of a prosperous India,” Birla asserted.

He appealed to all citizens to take a pledge this Independence Day to discharge their duties with honesty, dedication, and a spirit of service.

With India preparing to celebrate the day at the Red Fort and across the nation, Birla’s message served as both a tribute to the past and a clarion call for united national endeavour in the future.
