West Medinipur, 9 July (H.S.) A heartbreaking scene has emerged from Sandeuli village under Narayangarh Block of West Midnapore district in West Bengal. Due to extremely poor road worsened by heavy monsoon rains, an ailing woman had to be carried in a sling on shoulders to reach the main road for medical attention.

According to the villagers, the primary access road to the village is in such a dilapidated state that walking through the last 700 meters has become nearly impossible. The situation worsens during the rainy season. When someone falls ill, there is no option but to carry him or her manually in a sling to reach a vehicle on the main road.

65-year-old Saraswati Samat, a resident of Sandeuli village, has been suffering from heart disease for a long time. Her condition suddenly worsened recently. But due to the ongoing rain and the impassable road, no vehicle could enter the village. Eventually, she had to be carried in a sling to the main road before being transported to the hospital. The picture of the incident went viral on social media on Wednesday.

The incident has sparked widespread anger among the villagers. Local resident Nantu Puila said, “Around 25 families live here, all from Scheduled Caste communities. We have repeatedly complained about the road to the District Magistrate, the BDO, the SDO, and even the Panchayat Pradhan. Yet no action has been taken. The road is in such a state that even bicycles or motorcycles cannot pass. If someone falls ill, we have no choice but to carry them on our shoulders.”

The villagers are now demanding immediate repair of the road and have warned that if action is not taken soon, they will be forced to launch a protest.
