Imphal, 30 July (HS): In a decisive move against insurgent activities, security forces in Manipur seized multiple caches of arms and ammunition during separate operations conducted in Churachandpur and Imphal West districts, police PRO informed on Wednesday.

In the first operation, carried out in Songpi village under Churachandpur Police Station, personnel uncovered a substantial quantity of firearms. The seizure included four 9mm pistols with three magazines, six single-barrel rifles, an M79 grenade launcher, and a .22 rifle complete with its magazine.

On the same day, a second operation was launched in the Nobap Makhong area near Chanbirok Hill, under the jurisdiction of Sekmai Police Station in Imphal West. This raid led to the discovery of a large cache of locally manufactured weapons and explosive materials.

Among the items seized were one air gun, a locally fabricated Lethod-type gun, and a homemade mortar. Authorities also recovered four bipod-mounted “Pompi” guns, two shell-type IEDs, three PVC pipe-fitted IEDs and several accessories — including two empty .303 LMG magazines, two empty 7.62 LMG magazines, four makeshift bulletproof plates, two camouflage helmets, two bulletproof vests, and one BAOFENG radio handset.

Security officials have launched a detailed investigation to determine the source and potential targets of these weapons and explosives.
