Agra/Kanpur/Meerut,
23 July (HS): On Wednesday, private schools in Agra and Meerut received bomb
threats via email, triggering massive searches by bomb disposal and dog squads,
but no evidence has been uncovered, according to police. Vinayak Bhosale, Agra
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), said that Shri Ram School and Global
School in the city have received threatening emails. Both schools were
extensively inspected by the bomb disposal and dog squads. No suspicious objects were discovered in any
school, he stated.
Normal
academic activities have resumed, according to the officer, and the cyber cell
has launched an inquiry into the origins of the emails. Preliminary
investigations show that these emails originated in Kolkata, according to ACP
Bhosale, who added that a more thorough investigation is ongoing to track down
the perpetrators.
Kanpur's
Joint Police Commissioner (Law and Order) Ashutosh Kumar said today that more
than 12 private schools in the city, including Gulmohar and Jaipuria, had
received bomb threats. After this, the police and bomb squad conducted
intensive checking in the schools, but no explosive material or any other
objectionable material was found. All the children in the schools are safe. The
cyber cell has been alerted in this matter.
On
Tuesday afternoon, the Diwan Public School in Meerut received a threat email,
leading the school to notify the district magistrate and the Senior
Superintendent of Police. District Magistrate V K Singh stated that all schools
in Meerut are currently closed (due to the Kanwar Yatra), so there was no need
to panic. According to Senior Superintendent of Police Vipin Tada, cyber and
surveillance teams are probing the email, which appears to have originated in
Kolkata.
