Jalpaiguri, 23 July (H.S.): A shocking incident has emerged from Maynaguri in Jalpaiguri district, where the body of a sweet shop worker was found near his house in a roadside canal. The deceased has been identified as Amal Roy. Preliminary investigations reveal that his throat was slit.
According to police sources, Amal Roy was a resident of Maynaguri Road area and had been working at a local sweet shop for several years. He would usually return home between 10 and 11 PM after closing the shop. However, on Wednesday morning, locals discovered his blood-soaked body lying in a small canal close to his residence.
On information, the police from Maynaguri Police Station rushed to the spot and began an investigation. The body was recovered and sent to Jalpaiguri Medical College for post-mortem.
Initial examination revealed a deep cut on his throat, leading police to suspect foul play. The case is being treated as a homicide.
The police are currently questioning the victim’s wife and other close family members.
