Hyderabad, 23 July (H.S.): The Supreme Court on July 23 criticised the Telangana government for overnight clearing of the Kancha Gachibowli forest land, stating such actions are unjustifiable under the guise of sustainable development.

Chief Justice BR Gavai emphasized that while he supports sustainable development, it does not permit hasty destruction of forests with bulldozers. The Supreme Court had previously intervened in April to halt deforestation following suo motu cognisance of the issue related to a large-scale tree felling on 400 acres for an IT project by the Telangana State
