New Delhi, July 23(HS): The Supreme Court declined an expedited hearing regarding the Bombay High Court's acquittal of 12 individuals in the 2006 Mumbai local train blast case, despite the Maharashtra government's request.
Chief Justice B.R. Gavai raised concerns about the urgency, highlighting that eight accused had already been released. Previously, in September 2015, a lower court sentenced five to death and seven to life imprisonment, which the convicted individuals contested.
On July 21, the High Court acquitted 12, leading to the Supreme Court challenge. The bomb blasts claimed 189 lives and 820 injured people.
