Bhubaneswar, 23 July (H.S.) The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the development of a low-pressure area over the northern Bay of Bengal within the next 24 hours, which is expected to bring widespread rainfall across several districts of Odisha.
A cyclonic circulation currently active over the North Bay of Bengal may intensify, with the remnants of Cyclone Wipha anticipated to re-enter the Bay and evolve into a new cyclonic system. Under its influence, the formation of a low-pressure area is likely by Thursday, the IMD said in its latest bulletin.
As a result, Odisha is expected to experience a renewed spell of intense rainfall, with heavy showers likely to persist until July 27. The IMD has attributed this forecast to the combined effect of the cyclonic circulation and the emerging low-pressure system.
A Yellow Warning has been issued for Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, and Nuapada districts for today, where isolated heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is expected.
Additionally, surface wind speeds are likely to range between 30 to 40 kmph in affected areas. Rainfall activity is projected to intensify from tomorrow and spread across more parts of the state in the coming days.
Authorities have been advised to stay alert and take precautionary measures to mitigate the impact of potential weather disruptions.
