Bhubaneswar, 23 July (H.S.): The State Government is committed to creating safe and dignified workplaces for all, said Deputy Chief Minister Smt. Pravati Parida. She was speaking as the Chief Guest at an orientation programme on the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 — commonly known as the POSH Act — organized today at the Lok Seva Bhavan Convention Centre.
Addressing over 600 employees of Lok Seva Bhavan, Smt. Parida urged all employes to raise their voices against sexual harassment and to foster a culture of respect and equality. “Both men and women can be victims of sexual harassment.
Therefore, it is crucial for everyone to be aware of the provisions of the POSH Act and remain vigilant,” she emphasized. Highlighting that women and men are the two wheels of society, she stressed the need for harmony and mutual respect between all genders to build a safe workplace and a progressive society. She also opined that strict directives have been issued to establish Internal Committees in all institutions and colleges to ensure proper implementation of the POSH Act.
Smt. Parida further stated that appropriate punishment will be ensured for the guilty following proper investigation, and at the same time, individuals found making false allegations will also face consequences.
Distinguished lawyer Smt. Manasi Padhi delivered a detailed presentation on the POSH Act during two dedicated sessions, spreading awareness among the participants. She explained the provisions, rights, responsibilities, and redressal mechanisms under the Act in depth.
The event was also attended by Ms. Monisha Banerjee, Director, Department of Women and Child Development, and senior departmental officials.
