Bareilly,
23 July (HS): Police have charged a Muslim man with enticing a Hindu woman to
Islam by appearing as a Hindu, forcibly converting her, feeding her beef, and
forcing her into prostitution, officials said Wednesday. According to Circle
Officer (CO) Arun Kumar Singh, the victim, a woman from Kolkata with no
relatives, claimed to have traveled to Rudrapur, Uttarakhand, for employment. A
year ago, she met a man on social internet who identified as 'Rajveer' and claimed
to be Hindu. She claimed that he started a relationship under the guise of
marriage and even applied'sindoor' on her forehead, pronouncing her his wife.
About
nine months ago, the man, whose real name she later discovered was Bakhtawar,
drove her to Mandanpur Shumali village in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly police
station district.
It
was there, she claims, that she discovered his true identity as a Muslim. The woman also informed the cops that she was
forced to convert to Islam and eat beef against her will. She claimed to have
been raped by several other Muslim men and forced into the flesh trade,
according to the officer, who cited the woman's complaint. The woman alleges
that the accused, Bakhtawar, trapped her in a 'love jihad'. According to the police, the accused is also
affiliated to the 'Chhangur Baba gang'.
Based
on the victim's allegation, a FIR was filed against the accused on Monday at
Baheri police station under relevant sections of the BNS and the Uttar Pradesh
Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act. CO Singh stated that the
case is being probed and that efforts are being made to apprehend the accused,
who is currently at large.
CO
Baheri Arun Kumar said that in this entire case, the police have registered a
case under serious sections on the complaint of the girl. A team has been
formed to arrest the accused. The house of the accused is currently closed and
the whole family is absconding. The police is trying to trace them. The victim
girl reached the SSP office on Wednesday and narrated her ordeal.
