Kolkata, 23 July (H.S.) -
At least 11 people were injured in a head-on collision between a government-run passenger bus and a commercial truck in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district on Wednesday morning.
The accident occurred on National Highway 117 near Kakdwip, when the bus was travelling towards Kolkata and collided with the truck coming from the opposite direction. The impact of the collision was severe, causing extensive damage to the front portions of both vehicles.
According to police officials, the injured were immediately rushed to the Kakdwip Super Speciality Hospital with the help of local residents and emergency personnel. The truck driver, who sustained critical injuries, was later referred to Diamond Harbour Medical College and Hospital for advanced treatment.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash. Preliminary findings suggest that overspeeding or a failed overtaking attempt by one of the vehicles may have led to the incident. However, the exact cause will be confirmed after a thorough probe.
