Kolkata, 23 July (H.S.) -

In a significant crackdown on cross-border narcotics trafficking, the Border Security Force (BSF) has seized a total of 89.4 kilograms of ganja during multiple anti-smuggling operations along the India-Bangladesh international border in West Bengal. The operations were carried out across North 24 Parganas and Nadia districts by personnel of the South Bengal Frontier.

According to an official statement released by the BSF on Wednesday, the largest seizure took place on Tuesday under the jurisdiction of the Amudia Border Outpost (BOP) of the 143rd Battalion. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the BSF launched a special surveillance operation in the area. During the second watch, alert troops noticed four to five suspects carrying large sacks and moving suspiciously toward the border.

The BSF personnel immediately challenged the suspects and, following standard operating procedures, fired a warning shot. In response, the smugglers abandoned the sacks and fled toward Amudia Ghazipara village.

A thorough search of the area resulted in the recovery of three suspicious bundles containing 56 kilograms of ganja. Among the 86 packets found, 34 weighed one kilogram each, 36 weighed 500 grams, and 16 were 250 grams.

In separate operations, BSF troops from the 11th Battalion seized 28.4 kilograms of ganja from the BOPs at Boripota and Raninagar, while the 32nd Battalion recovered five kilograms of ganja from the Gede BOP.

The confiscated narcotics have been handed over to the appropriate law enforcement agencies for further legal action, in accordance with standard procedures.

A spokesperson for the South Bengal Frontier stated that BSF personnel remain fully committed and vigilant in curbing smuggling activities along the India-Bangladesh border. He emphasized that strategic surveillance and timely operations have played a key role in curtailing the flow of narcotics across the border. The BSF reiterated its resolve to continue such efforts with even greater intensity in the future to ensure the safety and integrity of the nation's borders.
