278 kg of Expired Dates Seized and Destroyed in Coimbatore E-commerce Warehouses

Chennai, 23 July (H.S.): The Food Safety department officials conducted surprise inspections at 37 warehouses in Coimbatore, resulting in the seizure and destruction of 278 kg of expired dates. The officials took immediate action to prevent the expired stock from reaching consumers, ensuring public health safety.

The inspections were carried out to crack down on e-commerce warehouses storing expired products. The entire quantity of expired dates was destroyed on the spot. This incident highlights the importance of regular checks on e-commerce warehouses to prevent the sale of expired products.

In a similar context, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has been conducting raids on warehouses operated by major e-commerce platforms like Amazon and Flipkart. These raids have resulted in the seizure of thousands of uncertified consumer products, underscoring growing safety concerns as uncertified products continue to circulate online. BIS has issued notices to these platforms, urging them to ensure only certified products are listed where mandatory.

Effective inventory management systems, including automated expiration date tracking, can help prevent such incidents. By leveraging technology, e-commerce businesses can ensure timely removal of expired products from their inventory, minimizing the risk of expired goods reaching consumers.
