Imphal, 2 July (HS): Manipur Police and security forces arrested five rebels, including a top ZUF(J) leader, during intelligence-led operations across multiple districts between June 30 and July 1.

Namgaklung Kamei alias November (42), self-styled Deputy Chief of Army of ZUF(J), was arrested near Kekrupat, Imphal West on July 1. A 9mm pistol, 10 live rounds, and a mobile phone were recovered from him.

On the same day, Mutum Ibohanbi Singh (49) of KYKL (SOREPA) was apprehended by Andro Police in Imphal East. A mobile phone was recovered from his possession.

Md. Ajad Khan alias Kathokpa (29), an active KCP (PWG) cadre, was arrested from Khurai Chaithabi Leirak under Porompat Police Station. He was found carrying a mobile phone.

Khulem Tulajit Meitei alias Tulen (21), associated with KCP (Apunba), was arrested from Khurai Kongkham Leikai. A mobile phone was seized from him.

On June 30, Khoirom Ingoton Singh alias Tomba (48), a KCP (NOYON/MFL) cadre, was arrested from Keirao Khunou under Irilbung Police Station. Police recovered a single-barrel gun, a 9mm pistol with two rounds, military gear, a bulletproof helmet and jacket, and radio wireless sets.

Security forces also recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition during separate raids in Jiribam and Kangpokpi districts.

In Jiribam district (Jairolpokpi to Uchathol area), items recovered included two modified .303 rifles, six SBBLs, four DBBLs, two 12-bore shotguns, one pompi gun, one tear gas gun, 180 live .303 rounds, eight SLR rounds, 27 rounds of 5.56mm, 11 tube launchers, five walkie-talkies with chargers, and eight tear gas shells.

In Kangpokpi district (Nepali Khutti, Kotlen), recovered items included three bolt-action rifles, four single-barrel rifles, two pull-mechanism rifles, six improvised mortars, three white phosphorus grenades, three No. 36 hand grenades with accessories, two UBGL shells, 45 rubber bullets, assorted live rounds, blank cartridges, four tube launchers, one tear smoke grenade, and two tear gas shells.

Traffic enforcement also continued during the period. On July 1, 58 traffic challans were issued, resulting in ₹94,500 in fines. On June 30, police recovered one stolen vehicle and removed tinted films from 28 vehicles.

Authorities confirmed that search and combing operations will continue to maintain public safety and counter insurgency threats.
