New Delhi, 9 June (H.S.): Sonam,

wife of Raja Raghuvanshi, has been arrested for her husband's alleged murder during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. She is accused of hiring contract killers to carry out the crime. Following police investigations, Sonam was located in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, where she surrendered to the authorities. In addition, three suspects from Madhya Pradesh were arrested during police raids. Meghalaya's Director General of Police, Idashisha Nongrang, reported that the suspects include one detained in Uttar Pradesh and two apprehended in Indore. The police are conducting further questioning and investigations.

The couple went missing on May 23 while visiting Cherrapunjee, with their last known activity being their check-out from the Balaji Homestay. A rented scooter was discovered abandoned a day later. Ten days after their disappearance, Raja's body was found in a gorge, with a machete believed to be the murder weapon recovered nearby. A tourist guide reported seeing Raja and Sonam with three men on the day they vanished. This guide had previously offered his services to the couple as they trekked the area, but they declined.

Meghalaya's Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, commended the police for swiftly solving the case, noting that significant progress was made in under a week. The investigation continues as authorities seek to capture an additional assailant.
