Hooghly, 4 June (H.S.): Workers stopped work and protested on Wednesday at Keshoram Rayon factory located in Kuntighat area of the district demanding regular work. The company management said that the problem will be resolved through talks. In view of the possibility of unrest, police has been deployed at the factory gate.

Notably, about 2500 workers including permanent, temporary and contractuals work in the factory. The temporary workers of the factory are not getting proper work, due to which there is unrest among them. On Wednesday morning, the workers gathered at the factory gate and started protesting. No worker went to work.

The workers alleged that the factory officials do not give proper work to the workers working in shifts. The workers working in shifts alleged that they were not given work for more than eight to ten days in a month. As a result, they are facing extreme difficulties in running their families. They told the company several times, but to no avail. However, they have to report every day. If they do not report, their cards are locked. Then they are unable to find any work. As a result, there is no way to work anywhere else. Meanwhile, even if they come back to the factory, there is no guarantee of getting work. In protest, the workers working in shifts stopped work in almost all departments of the factory, including spinning, acid plant and textile.

At present, only the broiler and CS (2) departments of the factory are operational. The agitation of the temporary workers has also been supported by the permanent workers. They also did not go to work on Wednesday. As a result, a deadlock has arisen in the factory. Amidst this deadlock, the officials of the Rayon management issued a notice to the workers. It said that the illegal strike has caused a loss of lakhs of rupees to the company. The management has written a letter to the five recognized unions of the factory in this regard. In the letter, they have urged to resolve the problem through talks.
