Odisha Vigilance Nabs Woman ASI in Berhampur for Accepting Bribe of ₹10,000

Bhubaneswar, 4 June (H.S.): In a major anti-corruption operation, Odisha Vigilance today apprehended Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Smt. Babita Suna of Mahila Police Station, Berhampur, while she was allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 from a complainant.

According to Vigilance officials, ASI Suna had demanded the bribe to provide undue favour in a case previously registered at Mahila Police Station, in which she was serving as the Investigating Officer. She had reportedly threatened the complainant with arrest, along with his mother, unless the bribe amount was paid.

Faced with the threat, the complainant approached the Vigilance Department. Acting on the complaint, the Vigilance team laid a trap and caught Smt. Suna red-handed while accepting the bribe amount of ₹10,000. The entire bribe money was recovered from her possession and seized as evidence.

Following the successful operation, simultaneous searches are underway at two locations linked to Smt. Suna to investigate any disproportionate assets (DA) she may possess.

A case has been registered under Berhampur Vigilance P.S. Case No. 7/2025, U/s 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Further investigation is currently in progress.

The Vigilance Department has reiterated its commitment to taking strict action against any government officials found indulging in corrupt practices.
