Suspended TMC Student Leader Vikramjit Sau Appears at Police Station Amid Audio Clip Controversy

Kolkata, 4 June (H.S.) —The political turmoil in West Bengal over a controversial leaked audio clip allegedly featuring former Bolpur IC Liton Haldar and Trinamool leader Anubrata Mondal intensified on Wednesday, as suspended Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) Birbhum district president Vikramjit Sau appeared before Siuri police for questioning.

According to police sources, Sau had been issued a notice to appear at 10:00 AM, but he arrived well ahead of schedule, between 6:00 and 6:30 AM. He was reportedly questioned for over an hour. The interrogation focused primarily on his social media remarks, in which he strongly criticized the police and extended open support to Anubrata Mondal.

The controversy erupted after an audio clip—allegedly a conversation between then-Bolpur Officer-in-Charge Liton Haldar and Anubrata Mondal—surfaced online, drawing sharp criticism and giving opposition parties fresh ammunition to target the ruling Trinamool Congress.

In response to the leaked tape, Vikramjit Sau had made a provocative social media post, directly addressing Haldar:

“Liton Haldar, I’m naming you directly—if you have the guts, file an FIR against Anubrata Mondal and the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad. You know you’re corrupt. I have all the proof. If you walk on the branches, we move through the nerves.”

Following this post, the Trinamool Congress swiftly suspended Sau from the party for six years, citing indiscipline and violation of party decorum. The police subsequently issued a notice summoning him for questioning, which led to his early morning visit to the Suri police station on Wednesday.

As of now, Suri police have not issued any official statement regarding the inquiry. However, the combination of the explosive audio leak and Sau’s social media outburst has made the case politically sensitive, and it continues to draw considerable attention in state political circles.
