East Burdwan, 4 June (H.S.): After the central government turned its back, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has started the 'Banglar Bari' project to provide permanent housing to the residents of the state. After the East Burdwan district administration identified the families living in huts after a survey and sent the list to the state, the state government released the first installment amount. Now the district officials are trying to find out how much progress has been made in the construction of houses with that amount. But surprisingly, many families have disappeared after withdrawing money from the accounts of the Banglar Bari project. They are not found in the area. Officials are currently searching for 17 such families, said a district administration official on Wednesday. According to administration sources, many people have not started house construction even after receiving the money. The administration has taken back the money from 126 such families. Action can be taken against sixty more families. They have been ordered to build houses again. If they do not do so, the money will be taken back. If someone does not return the money, an FIR will be lodged against him. East Burdwan District Magistrate Ayesha Rani said, We have no intention of taking back money from anyone. Those who are building houses after receiving money will be supported in every way. However, if the house is not built, the money will have to be returned. The money of this project cannot be spent on other things. Each family has been given enough time. It has also been learned from the administration that those who have worked after receiving money in the first phase are being given the second installment. So far, the second installment has been given to 64,699 families. Families will be able to build houses according to their plan. Officials said that there is no need to please any influential person of the area for this project. Strict action will be taken against those who demand money if a complaint is lodged. Beneficiaries will be able to buy construction material from the place of their choice. If any syndicate oppresses them, legal action will also be taken against them. Recently, many complaints were submitted to the administration from Jamalpur and Katwa subdivisions. Some beneficiaries had demanded money from them. The administration has started investigating the incident However, if a beneficiary does not build a house after receiving the money, the administration will not delay in taking action against them. It has been nearly two and a half months since the first installment was received. Every beneficiary has been asked several times to build a house. Most of the families have started the work. Some beneficiaries wanted to fool the officials. But their efforts failed.
