Kolkata, 4 June (H.S.): If you want to start the business of buying and selling old vehicles in West Bengal, then from now on you will have to get a license from the Transport Department. Recently, a meeting was held with the businessmen involved in the purchase and sale of old vehicles under the leadership of Transport Minister Snehasish Chakraborty. In that meeting, it was told that from next June, it will be mandatory to get a license from the Transport Department to start the business of buying and selling old cars. Along with this, information has also been given about many policies that have to be followed in the business. Guidelines have been given by the Transport Department.
To obtain this new license, each trader will have to deposit a lump sum amount of ₹ 25,000. According to the Transport Department, this new rule will be effective for the purchase and sale of old passenger commercial vehicles, buses, minibuses, taxi cabs and autos. Apart from this, it is mandatory for those traders to have a garage. There should also be a large space to store vehicles. Recently, the Transport Department found out that in the list they have, there are only 39 companies that are in the business of buying and selling old cars. But in reality, thousands of companies are doing this kind of business not only in Kolkata city but also in suburbs and various districts. After that, the officials of the Transport Department sat in a meeting and brought this matter to the notice of the Transport Minister. After that, the Transport Department gave the seal of approval to implement this new rule.
An official of the Transport Department said, Till now the state government did not have any accurate information and accounting regarding the purchase and sale of old cars. If this new rule is followed, then there will be a clear account of which car is going where, whose ownership is changing, etc. In such a situation, all the accounts will be given on the portal of the Transport Department. As a result, if anyone wants to know any information about old cars, they will be able to get it easily. Despite the officials saying so, a source in the transport department said that many criminal incidents related to old cars take place in different parts of the state. At that time, the police and administration have to work hard to find the real culprit. Therefore, if this new system is implemented, not only will the tendency to commit crime by exchanging vehicles decrease, but the police and administration will also be able to investigate various criminal incidents easily. Also, the revenue loss that the transport department was facing due to the purchase and sale of old vehicles can be easily compensated.
