Governor chairs session on dairy sector with Cooperation, Animal Husbandry Dept, and WAMUL

Guwahati, 4 June (HS): Assam Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya on Wednesday chaired a briefing session at Raj Bhavan to discuss ways to strengthen the state's dairy sector. The session was attended by senior officials of the Department of Cooperation, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary and West Assam Milk Producers Cooperative Union Limited (WAMUL).

The Governor underlined the important role of the cooperative movement in eliminating rural unemployment and increasing self-reliance. He said, Cooperatives can become a powerful medium to raise the standard of living of rural communities, especially when the youth are trained and empowered through the cooperative model.

He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Sahkar se Samriddhi while referring to the Ministry of Cooperation formed by the Government of India on 6 July 2021. Also, the empowerment of the cooperative sector across the country was highlighted due to the policy efforts made under the leadership of Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah.

Underlining the important role of youth in making the cooperative

movement sustainable and futuristic, the Governor said that “making plans keeping youth at the center, giving information about cooperatives in the curriculum and formulating dynamic policies is the need of the hour.”

He also highlighted the role of cooperatives in the White Revolution for self-sufficiency in milk production and said that the cooperative institutions of Assam can become the leader of milk production in the North-East.

During the session, senior officials of the concerned departments highlighted the current initiatives, possibilities and framework of cooperation through power point presentations.

On this occasion, Additional Chief Secretary Kalyan Chakraborty, Registrar of Cooperative Societies Narayan Konwar, OSD to Governor Prof. Bechan Lal, Commissioner and Secretary SS Meenakshi Sundaram, Animal Husbandry Department Secretary Dr. Sadnek Singh, VAMUL MD SK Parida along with progressive farmers, entrepreneurs and other senior officials of the dairy sector were present.---------------
