Orang (Assam), 4 June (HS): A serious flood situation has arisen in Assam's Orang National Park these days. About 40% of the park has been submerged due to sudden rise in water level in Dhansiri, Pachnoi and Brahmaputra river. Wildlife is in danger due to the water of Brahmaputra, Dhansiri and Pachnoi rivers entering the southern part of the park. Although many animals have moved to safer high places, the situation still remains very challenging.
The flood has hit the 12 camps of the park the most, in which the depth of water has reached seven feet in Khairachaali and Bali camps. Even in these difficult circumstances, the forest department personnel are continuously patrolling with the help of boats so that other animals including one-horned rhinoceros can be saved from poachers.
According to information, the water level of the Dhansiri river rose rapidly since Tuesday evening, causing sudden flooding in several camps in the eastern part. According to the park administration, the situation is being monitored and necessary steps are being taken.
