04 June (HS): A labourer was killed and another critically injured after a
massive iron mesh fell during bridge building at the Jamuria drain on Ayodhya Road,
police said on Wednesday. Administration has launched an investigation into the
occurrence. The event occurred on Tuesday night, as a crew of seven to eight
workmen were installing an iron framework at the construction site of a new
bridge replacing old, dilapidated structures on the Lucknow-Ayodhya old route
near Patel Tiraha. The iron mesh lost equilibrium and collapsed, trapping two
workmen below. The other workers raised an alert, and with the assistance of
surrounding businesses and passersby, the trapped workers were rescued and sent
to the district hospital, according to SHO RK Rana.
Doctors
pronounced one of them dead during treatment.
He was recognized as Ramesh Kumar (35), a native of Sitapur. Badlu (26),
the wounded worker, is Kumar's brother-in-law and lives in Barabanki. Rana
stated that the wounded worker is getting treatment and that the corpse of the
deceased has been transferred for post-mortem examination. The deceased's
family has not filed a written complaint as of yet.
District
Magistrate Shashank Tripathi has ordered an investigation and appointed a
two-member team consisting of Assistant Engineers Ashok Kumar and Priyank
Tripathi. The committee has been
requested to present its findings within three days. Executive Engineer Rajeev
Kumar Rai stated that based on the investigation findings, action would be
taken against individuals deemed to be negligent in adhering to safety
requirements on the building site.
