Kamrup (Assam), 4 June (HS): The bamboo bridge built at the confluence of Brahmaputra and Kalajal rivers in Hajo area of Assam was washed away in flood waters. This bridge connected Milpara and Tapabari of Hajo. Due to the rising flood water, this bridge was completely submerged and washed away, due to which traffic in the area has been badly affected.
Due to the washing away of the bridge, people of about nine villages nearby and more than a thousand school going students are facing great difficulties in reaching the educational institutions of Hajo, Ramdia and Barchali.
Local residents have urged the Kamrup district administration to provide immediate government assistance to the flood affected people.
It is worth mentioning that this bamboo bridge was an alternative route before the construction work of the concrete bridge approved by the Public Works Department of the Government of Assam started. The Chief Minister has recently directed to start the construction work of this concrete bridge after the rains.
