Kolkata, 4 June (H.S.): West Bengal is experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases, with 60 new cases reported on Wednesday, bringing the active case count to 432. A notable case includes a seven-month-old testing positive, with the mother awaiting results. The state recorded its first COVID-related death of 2025, a 43-year-old woman from Howrah. Cases have risen sharply since early May, per the Centre’s dashboard. Despite this, a senior health official advises calm but emphasizes protocol adherence, like sanitization. Kolkata Municipal Corporation is enhancing surveillance and testing in high-density areas. Experts recommend masks, hygiene, and boosters for vulnerable groups. However, no official state advisory has been issued yet.
