Ratnagiri, 03 June (HS): The MT Basra Star ship that
has been stranded on Mirya Beach in Ratnagiri since September 2019, broke into
two pieces. The ship carrying diesel from the Gulf to the Maldives encountered
engine trouble and drifted ashore during cyclone Nisarga. The stranded ship was
a popular tourist spot.
The company did not take away the ship after the
deadline given by the Maritime Board. The Maritime Board then ordered its dismantling. The Basra Star Ship was a hurdle in the construction of a dam in the area. Facing huge waves from the sea, it broke into two pieces on Monday.
The process of removing the remains of the ship will be undertaken soon.
