Howrah, 3 June (H.S.): As part of the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Howrah organized an integrated livestock health camp and pre-Kharif awareness programme in Khadargat village on Monday. The event was conducted in collaboration with the Block Livestock Development Office under the Department of Animal Resources Development, Government of West Bengal, the KVK spokesperson informed on Tuesday.
The camp witnessed enthusiastic participation from nearly 150 farmers across Khadargat, Nichbalia, and Garbalia villages, who brought their livestock for free health check-ups. Veterinary officials from Jagatballavpur block, along with local Pashu Sakhis (community livestock caregivers), conducted health screenings, vaccinations, and necessary treatments for cattle and goats. Free veterinary medicines were also distributed to the farmers, along with expert guidance on modern animal husbandry practices aimed at improving livestock health and boosting milk production.
Dr. Pradip Dey, Director of the ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), Kolkata, lauded the initiative. He emphasized that rural prosperity lies in livestock care, seasonal crop planning, and inclusive management of natural resources. Dr. Dey also stressed the importance of integrated livestock management, prevention of zoonotic diseases, sanitation, and biosecurity measures, stating that such field-level interventions bring the true spirit of the campaign to life.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. K. Barui, Head of KVK Howrah, who received appreciation from the local farming community for his consistent efforts. Dr. Barui highlighted that KVK Howrah is committed to empowering farmers socially and economically through regular outreach and capacity-building activities.
KVK scientists elaborated on the objectives of the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, provided pre-Kharif farming advisories, and distributed technical booklets and information on central government schemes to the attendees.
Experts from the National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering and Technology and the National Bureau of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning also participated, offering valuable insights on sustainable agriculture practices and soil health management.
According to the KVK spokesperson, such integrated programmes not only provide practical support to farmers but also strengthen the mission of the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan. By combining technical knowledge, healthcare services, and government scheme awareness under one roof, the initiative is empowering farmers to move toward greater self-reliance. Participating farmers expressed satisfaction and appreciation for the timely and multifaceted support received.
