Mirzapur, 11 June (HS): “Both Vindhya
and Ganga are now hoping for greenery. Planting trees is no longer just a formality;
it has become an administrative responsibility. If you dig a pit and plant a
tree, you will get a salary & vice-versa. This war for greenery is no
longer just for the earth, it is also a test of human responsibility.” District
Magistrate Mirzapur said in clear words in the meeting of the District
Environment and Ganga Committee that now just sitting in the meeting will not work;
plants should be visible on the ground. For this, the pits should also be dug
in advance or else the salaries of the responsible officers will be stopped.
The DM said that the season of plantation is about to come. In such a
situation, every department will have to complete its homework, which place has
been chosen for plantation, how many pits have been dug and what is the plan
for their care. All this will have to be submitted to the Forest Department
within two days.
There is no mercy for careless
officers. Despite receiving instructions in the last meeting, the officers who
did not submit any action plan and who remained absent from the meeting without
informing - such as the Executive Engineer of the Provincial and Construction
Section of the Public Works Department and the Principal of the Technical
Education Institute, the DM took direct action against them and ordered to stop
their salary.
Who will plant how many saplings?
Forest department divisional officer Arvind Raj Mishra said that a big target
for tree plantation has been set this year. 44,90,600 saplings have been given
to the forest department, 24,45,900 to the rural development department, 4 lakh
to the environment department, urban development, education, health,
agriculture, irrigation etc. all departments have been given targets
accordingly.
Plan for greenery on the banks of
Ganga: DM said that there should be a plan to plant trees on Ganga ghats,
platforms, ponds and barren lands. This time, instead of just planting saplings
and taking photos, responsibility for their protection and care should be
fixed. He said that 5 such places should be identified from every block in
rural areas where tree plantation can be done on a large scale.
Report on previous greenery also
sought: DM also sought photographs of plants planted two years ago, so that it
could be seen whether those plants are still alive or are just in the files of
the scheme. Ganga Samiti's initiative: Yoga, cleanliness and greenery: It was
also decided in the Ganga Samiti's meeting that yoga programmes will be
conducted at Ganga villages and ghats. Cleanliness will be done and emphasis
will be laid on increasing greenery.
