Chennai IPS Officer Reposted After Suspension Revoked Over Sexual Harassment Allegation

Chennai, 11 June (H.S.): A Chennai IPS officer, D Magesh Kumar, has been reposted as the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Coastal Security Group after his suspension was revoked.

Magesh Kumar was suspended in February this year following allegations of sexual and physical harassment leveled by a woman traffic constable. The allegations led to an investigation by the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), which submitted a no further action report, prompting the revocation of his suspension in April.

Magesh Kumar, who was serving as Joint Commissioner of Police (North) when the allegations surfaced, has now been assigned to replace R Jayanthi as DIG, Coastal Security Group, Chennai. Jayanthi, in turn, has been posted as DIG, Technical Services, Chennai, as part of a recent rejig of police officers in the state.

The allegations against Magesh Kumar were investigated by a Vishaka Committee led by DGP Seema Agarwal. The committee's probe reportedly found evidence of conciliation between the parties involved, leading to the ICC's recommendation for no further action. Magesh Kumar's wife had also accused the complainant of attempting to extort money from her husband, claiming the allegations were false.

The reposting of Magesh Kumar has sparked interest, given the high-profile nature of the allegations and the subsequent investigation. The Tamil Nadu police department continues to undergo changes, with the latest reshuffle aiming to ensure efficient functioning and public trust.
