South 24 Parganas, 11 June (H.S.): An attempt was made to rape a nurse by giving her intoxicating substance in tea at a tea shop at Koyalapatti area adjacent to Garia station under Narendrapur police station of South 24 Parganas district. The accused has been arrested. Many items including mobile phones of both have been seized from the spot.

According to Narendrapur police station sources, Somnath Panda has a tea shop at Koyalapatti, adjacent to Garia station. The victim nurse had gone to the shop to take tea at around 10 pm. The victim told that she had to send money to her husband with the help of Somnath Panda. Her husband works in another state. She clamined that while sitting and talking in the shop, something was mixed in the tea she was given to drink, and she became unconscious. She remained unconscious in the shop for some time. When she regained consciousness, she saw that there was no cloth on her body. She somehow found clothes and escaped from there at around 2:30 am and informed her family about the incident. A complaint has been lodged against the accused in connection with the incident at Narendrapur police station. Immediately after the complaint, the police arrested the accused. Narendrapur police station in-charge said that along with the physical examination of the victim, an application will be given in the court for her confidential statement.
