9 Locations Selected in Chennai to Set Up EV Charging Stations

Chennai, 11 June (H.S.) : The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) and Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Ltd have announced plans to set up electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at nine prime locations across the city. This initiative aims to support the growing number of EV users in Chennai and further establish Tamil Nadu as the EV capital of India.

The selected locations for the EV charging stations include Besant Nagar, T. Nagar, Ambattur, and other key areas in the city. Specifically, the locations are Ashtalakshmi Temple Parking and Besant Nagar Beach Parking Area in Besant Nagar, Corporation Ground Parking and Somasundaram Ground in T. Nagar, Mangal Lake Parking in Ambattur, Semmozhi Park in Thousand Lights, Marina Beach Parking Zone, Anna Nagar's Bogan Villa Park, and Mylapore's Nageswara Rao Park.

A feasibility study for the project has been completed, and tenders will be floated within the next two weeks. The GCC plans to commence work on setting up the charging stations soon, providing much-needed infrastructure support for EV users in Chennai. This development is part of the state government's efforts to promote sustainable transportation and reduce carbon emissions.

With Tamil Nadu already contributing to 40% of India's EV production, this initiative is expected to further boost the state's reputation as a leader in electric vehicle adoption. The establishment of EV charging stations will likely encourage more people to switch to electric vehicles, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and promoting a cleaner environment. The GCC's efforts to support EV infrastructure are a welcome move for the city's residents and will likely have a positive impact on the environment.
