Patna, June 10(HS): Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) President Lalu Prasad criticized Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over rising crime rates in Bihar, highlighting the state’s deteriorating law and order. He recalled Kumar’s past remarks about “Jungle Raj” and questioned if crimes now happen only after 5 p.m., pointing out that many occur during daylight hours.
Lalu cited that over 65,000 murders have taken place since Kumar took office, challenging him to acknowledge this figure. He accused the Nitish-BJP alliance of dismantling law enforcement, claiming they have created a corrupt and ineffective police force. Referencing a recent double-murder in Patna's Alamganj area, Lalu used it to illustrate the declining public safety. His comments followed Bihar's ADG Kundan Krishnan's acknowledgment of a slight increase in murder cases.
Police statistics show a rise from 232 to 233 average monthly murders in 2025 compared to the previous year. As Bihar's Assembly elections approach, law and order are becoming crucial issues, prompting opposition leaders to target the ruling NDA government regarding public safety and administrative shortcomings.
