New Delhi, June 11 (H.S.): Sri Lanka Army Commander Lieutenant General BKGM Lasantha Rodrigo arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday for a four-day visit. This visit supports the strategic partnership between India and Sri Lanka, which was reinforced by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake's recent trip to India. Key cooperation areas include defence, maritime security, and developmental projects, with India committing a $61.5 million grant for Kankesanthurai Port's development. The two nations have a history of military collaboration, with around 700 Sri Lankan officers undergoing training in India, which accommodates over 25% of its defence training slots for foreign nations to Sri Lankan professionals.
The visit follows the inaugural India-Sri Lanka Defense Dialogue in Colombo, where Major General Aruna Jayasekara and Indian Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh emphasized their strategic partnership. The commitment from both nations underscores their dedication to promoting peace and stability in the Indian Ocean region.
