Bangalore, 10 June (H.S.) : The High Court today heard a voluntary public interest litigation (PIL) filed by the Royal Challengers Bangalore in connection with the stampede that left 11 people dead and several injured during a victory celebration in Bengaluru after the team won the Indian Premier League.
As the bench of Acting Chief Justice V. Kameshwara Rao and Justice C.M. Joshi began its proceedings on Tuesday, some lawyers representing the deceased requested that the interim petition be considered for hearing.
The bench, addressing Advocate General Shashikaran Shetty, who was present at the time, questioned why the factual report has not been submitted yet. To this, Shetty said that a judicial inquiry has been ordered into the incident, a magisterial inquiry is also on. The investigation report is yet to come. If the report is submitted to the court before it comes, it will be alleged that the government has taken a decision before the investigation. Therefore, he requested that a month be given.
The bench, ignoring this submission directed the court to file its report in a closed session within two days. It also adjourned the hearing to 12 June , stating that a decision on the interim applications would be taken after considering the report submitted by the government.
