Golaghat/Lakhimpur (Assam), 31 May (HS): As a result of torrential rains in the state for the last two days, water is flowing over National Highway-37 in Bokakhat. Water is flowing at a very fast speed over National Highway-37 near Latabari in Bokakhat. On the other hand, the first flood of the year is being witnessed in Lakhimpur district of Upper Assam. The water of Ranganadi has entered many villages in Lakhimpur.
Due to the rise in the water of Diflu river, the flow of water is flowing through the National Highway. Meanwhile, it is seen that at many places the paved road has broken and water has flowed away. Also, due to torrential rains, water has entered the houses of various areas of Bokakhat. Big trees have also been uprooted at many places.
Water entered the houses in Kalakhowa village of Bokakhat last night. National Highway 37 in Bokakhat has been submerged in water at many places. Vehicles transporting at night faced extreme difficulties. If the water continues to rise like this, then National Highway 37, the only transport system of Upper and Lower Assam, is likely to be closed very soon.
At the same time, about 30 villages of Naubecha and Ranganadi constituency of Lakhimpur district are in the grip of water. Local people allege that many villages have been flooded due to the release of water by NEEPCO Dam. NEEPCO is accused of releasing water from the dam without prior notice. On the other hand, flood water has started flowing on National Highway 17 as well. ---------------------
